dc.description.abstract | Vocabulary learning was very important to be taught to young learners because the introduction of a foreign language that is developed into a program appropriately and carried out together and carried out regularly was certain to improve students' abilities and proficiency in vocabulary mastery. Students who mastered vocabulary could communicate well using what they had learned. In the teaching and learning English process so as not to be boring, one of them had to be by applying an effective learning method, called Guess the Word Game. The application of games in the process of teaching and learning was an interesting learning method and could encourage students' motivation to learn English.
This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of MTsN Kota Batu students' vocabulary mastery through Guess the Word Game. In this study, the researcher used a quasi-experimental research method. The population of this study was the seventh-grade students of MTsN Kota Batu in the academic year 2023/2024. The sample of this study was class 7A consisting of 33 students, who are participating in the experimental class, and class 7B consisting of 28 students, who are serving as a control class, which were selected by random sampling. Data collection from pre-test and post-test scores consisting of 50 questions. To analyze the data, the researcher used IBM SPSS Statistic 22. The result of the research the pre-test and post-test questions were analyzed using the Independent Sample T-Test and obtained a sig. (2 tailed) of 0.005 ˂ 0.05. It could be concluded that the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted, and the null hypothesis (H0) is rejected, so the results showed that in seventh grade at MTsN Kota Batu there was a significant effect on students’ vocabulary mastery after being taught using Guess the Word Game. This research confirms that students' vocabulary knowledge in English courses may be improved by using the Guess the Word Game learning approach.
Based on the findings, it was addressed to English teachers to explicitly teach vocabulary to students using Guess the Word Game so that students' learning motivation increased. It was also necessary to encourage students to understand and capture material from the teacher, by learning independently using the Guess the Word Game method which could currently be accessed through electronic media, namely applications on mobile phones or websites. Future researchers could use and further develop this Guess the Word Game method, for example by using technology such as Guess the Word Game applications and websites.
