dc.description.abstract | Background: Ascariasis is one of the important health problem in Indonesia. Turmeric rhizome has potential
anthelmintic substance. This in vitro study aimed to identify whether turmeric rhizome ethanolic extract
caused paralysis and death on Ascaris suum Goeze.
Method: This study was an in vitro experimental research used Ascaris suum Goeze in beaker glasses
divided into five group concentration of turmeric rhizome ethanolic extract: 0.5%, 1%, 2%, 4%, and 8%. The
control groups were given NaCl 0,9% and pyrantel pamoat 5 mg/ml, respectively. The percentage of
paralysis and death of A. suum goeze was observed at 1st,2nd,3rd,4th,5th,6th,7th,8th,9th
, and 24th hours of
observations. Data were analyzed using linear regression using Excel program.
Results: The increased concentration of turmeric rhizome ethanolic extract was linear with the increase of its
anthelmintic activity. The PC50 value of turmeric rhizome ethanolic extract was 2,05%. The LC50 value of
turmeric rhizome ethanolic extract was 3,96%.
Conclusion: The turmeric rhizome ethanolic extract has a lower potential compared to pyrantel pamoat as an
anthelmintic.
