dc.description.abstractKM is part of the Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka program launched by the government to help schools affected by the Covid-19 pandemic. The participants who passed administrative test are send to elementary schools that have C accreditation. Teaching at the elementary level is not as easy as it sounds, especially for new student teachers who have to adapt to the classroom environment. The objectives of this study are 1) problems and solutions in designing lesson plans, 2) problems and solutions in implementing teaching strategies, 3) problems and solutions in developing instructional materials, and 4) problems and solutions in using teaching media. and 5) problems and solutions in assessing students performance. The study design used in this study is descriptive qualitative. Three students from the Department of English Language Education, Faculty of Teacher Training, University of Islam Malang who participated in KM Program Batch 3 as research subjects. This study used interview as the data collection technique. Research results show that: 1) The problems in designing lesson plan are the difficulty of setting learning objectives, understanding learning indicators, and managing time allocation. To overcome these problems, respondents search the internet for references and talk with fellow student teachers. 2) Problems in implementing teaching strategies are those of classroom management, anxiety, and confusion in choosing appropriate teaching strategies. Efforts to overcome these problems consist of implementing educational strategies that utilize students activities, working with experienced teachers, self-reliance, and talking to students to understand their personalities. 3) Problems in developing instructional materials are the difficulty of choosing instructional materials and conveying the material. The solution to these problems are to obtain and develop reference materials from books and the Internet, make the materials available in an easy way, and use songs. 4) Problems in using teaching media are the class becomes less conducive and the limitations of the available media. The solutions to these problems are to be patient and giving advice to students and using available media. 5) Problems in assessing student performance are the lack of understanding of assessment tools and the structure of question grids. Efforts to overcome these problems consist of creating assessment tools that take into account the materials taught, searching for information on the Internet, and modifying grids taken from the Internet. Based on some of the insights above, problems arise due to several internal factors such as the lack of understanding and ability of student teachers in teaching while external factors are influenced by student behavior and lack of support in the form of the availability of learning facilities by schools. All in all, investigations of specific instructional problems faced by student teachers and the solutions may be explored in detail in other studies by further researchers.
