Teacher’s Perception on The Use of Teaching Strategy in Online Listening Class

Abstract
Teaching strategies are the approaches and tactics that a teacher employs to assist pupils in their learning. The teacher will select the most appropriate teaching technique for the material being studied, the learner's degree of competence, as well as where they are in their learning journey. Teacher may utilize a variety of teaching styles with various end goals in a single lesson. In large-scale studies, the most effective teaching methods are those that have been demonstrated to its function .The objective of this study was to find out what kind of teaching strategy is applied in listening class and teachers perceptions on the use of teaching strategy in teaching listening. In conducting the study, the researcher used the descriptive qualitative method. The subjects in this study our English lectures in University of Islam Malang (UNISMA), specifically listening lecturers and focusing on English listening class in second semester. The data was collected by the researcher in term of transcript document consisted of 7 questions and observation checklist. The researcher did interview to the two lecturers and observation in listening class to gain the data Based on the data analysis, in terms the use of teaching strategy in listening class, it was found that both lecturers employed a metacognitive technique in teaching listening to second semester students in their listening class. Participants employed three steps of pre-listening, while-listening, and post-listening, according to the researcher's observation and interview. Regarding to the teacher's perspective on the use of teaching strategies in listening class, all participants highly supported the use of teaching strategies in hearing class. According to lecturers, teacher strategy refers to a teacher's endeavor to implement a teaching plan, which includes employing a variety of teacher variables such as objectives, resources, methods, tools, and evaluations to influence students to reach the goals that have been specified.
