dc.description.abstractIn Indonesia, the use of English is needed for students to have a great job. English is also one of the compulsory subjects. But in the pandemic Corona-19, the use of online learning made the students are reluctant to practice their speaking skills. In the preliminary study, the researcher found that the students at Islamic Institute Sunan Kalijogo in Islamic Preaching and Communication department were hesitant to speak English in online learning. Therefore, these studies aim is finding how the use of Instagram may enhance students' speaking skills. This study used Classroom Action Research (CAR). The subject was 27 students from the Islamic Preaching and Communication department at the Islamic Institute of Sunan Kalijogo, Malang. The instrument of this study was speaking test, field note, and questionnaire. In this study, the criteria of success were: (1) 80% of the students got a score above 75 on the final test. (2) 80% of all students in the Islamic Institute gave positive responses toward the use of Instagram. The findings showed that the implementation of Instagram improved students' speaking skills. The results presented that 85% (25 students) had passed the criteria of success. Based on the questionnaire that had distributed to the students, it found that 87% (26 students) gave positive responses toward the use of Instagram in online learning. It could be concluded that all of the criteria of success had been successful. Then, the steps that had been applied in the implementation were: (1) Explaining basic knowledge of the materials that were introducing yourself and friends, (2) Asking to practice speaking by presenting, and discussing, (3) Giving feedback and having discussed, (4) Assigning the students for making a video. In conclusion, the use of Instagram in teaching-learning improved students’ speaking skills and motivation in online learning. Students were being able to practice English speaking skills out of the class. Besides the use of Instagram brought higher motivation to students. Students were more courageous to speak English in front of their friends and class. This study is recommended for English teachers, students, and other researchers. The English teacher may use it for alternative media learning to improve students’ speaking skills, and other researchers are suggested for using this study as a reference in doing research.en_US
