Abstract:
This abstract aims to provide a concise summary of the experiences of teachers who have used English as the medium of instruction while explaining "Kitab Kuning." "Kitab Kuning" refers to classical Islamic texts written in Arabic and commonly studied in Islamic educational institutions. The use of English as a medium of instruction in this context presents a unique challenge, as it involves translating and conveying complex religious concepts and teachings from Arabic into English. This study explores the experiences of teachers who have undertaken this task, focusing on their challenges, strategies, and reflections. The data for this study were collected through interviews and observations of teachers in Islamic educational institutions. The findings reveal various experiences, including the difficulties in finding equivalent terms and expressions in English, adapting the teaching methods to cater to students' language proficiency levels, and the importance of cultural sensitivity in conveying religious teachings accurately. The study concludes by highlighting the significance of providing adequate support and training for teachers who undertake the task of using English as the medium of instruction for explaining "Kitab Kuning." Understanding the experiences of these teachers can contribute to improving instructional practices in Islamic education and facilitating effective communication of religious teachings in multilingual contexts.
