The Students’ Perceptions on The Use of Video Conference Applications As an Online Learning Media in English Class
Abstract
The corona virus has spread worldwide, therefore the government has mandated work from home or commonly known as WFH. Due to this, the teaching and learning process which was initially face to face must be carried out completely online. Virtual or online teaching and learning activities can be carried out at the agreed time and can be done anywhere. Teaching and learning activities through this virtual teacher can monitor their students through supporting applications such as Zoom Meeting, Google Meet, and the other video conference application. After the pandemic subsides, the use of video conferencing applications can be used to help teachers or lecturers who cannot attend class in person, but the teaching and learning still can be carried out.
This research examines the perceptions of 9th grade students at MTs. Hasyim Asy’ari Malang regarding the use of video conferencing applications. The instrument utilized for data collection included a questionnaire comprising 19 statements and interviews. The researcher employed Google form and conducted the interview via WhatsApp video call. After interviewing the participants, the data was transcribed and organized into written form subsequently the finding were compiled into descriptive format.
The finding of this research showed that video conferencing has a function as a long-distance communication tool through internet technology facilities by holding meetings or indirect interactions between teachers and students which is very useful in this distance learning process. Learning using the Zoom Meeting and Google Meet applications in online learning is included in the very simple and practical category.
