Abstract
Several researches on the analysis of learning needs are only a few studies on ESP and ESP textbook evaluation focused on the practical study of learning ESP and ESP textbook evaluation. The goal of this study was to survey the use of ESP textbooks from the perception of textbook users. A survey of ESP textbook assessment was used in the study. There were 133 students in all, 42 of which were accounting students from the University of Muhammadiyah Malang, 25 students of Biology department form University of Islam Malang, 60 students of Chemical department form State Islamic university of Malang, and 6 students of informatics engineering department from Polytechnic State of Malang will participate in the study. Meanwhile, 5 Lecturers are from University of Muhammadiyah Malang, 4 Lecturers are State Islamic University of Malang, and 9 Lecturers are from University of Islam Malang, and 9 lecturers are from Polytechnic State of Malang. Questionnaires were used to gather the data. The collected data were tallied to see what proportion of ESP students responded to each variable. According to data analysis findings, both lecturers and students value ESP courses, yet they both believe it is possible to pass ESP courses without reading the textbook. Additionally, the perceptions of lecturers and students revealed that the students themselves need some crucial things in their majors that would be relevant in the industry in the future. In order to improve their reading abilities, the students needed to study materials specifically centered on their majors and ESP textbooks. We can draw the conclusion that ESP lecturers and students generally require the ESP textbook. However, there are several aspects of the ESP textbook that are lacking. These include visuals, book goals, physical activity, and reading materials. In order to increase the ability of the ESP students to learn, it is advised that the ESP lecturer use more diverse additional resources. The quality of textbooks has to be improved, according to the ESP program organizers, in order to fully meet the needs of ESP students. By using improved supplemental resources and producing fresh components for amusing activities, as well as by modifying or adopting some, it may be accomplished.
