Pelevelan Kemampuan Komunikasi Matematis Siswa Kelas VIII MTs Negeri 2 Malang dalam Menyelesaikan Masalah Statistika
Abstract
Mathematical communication is the ability to convey mathematical ideas both orally and in writing. There are 4 indicators of mathematical communication skills, namely 1) representing real objects in the form of language, symbols, ideas or mathematical models 2) explaining ideas, situations and mathematical relations in writing in the form of pictures 3) stating daily events in language or mathematical symbols 4) changing one form of representation to another form of mathematical representation. This indicator is a setting of mathematical communication in mathematical communication skills.
This study aims to describe the leveling of mathematical communication skills of class VIII students of MTs Negeri 2 Malang in solving statistical problems. In this study, a qualitative approach was used with student data from class VIII MTs Negeri 2 Malang. The subjects in this study were 3 students with high, medium, low communication ability categories.
The analysis was carried out based on the subject test results sheet provided by the researcher. Each work step is identified based on the leveling grid of students' mathematical communication abilities in solving problems based on the presence or absence of process indicators of mathematical communication abilities. The results of this study explain that there are three levels of mathematical communication ability, namely: communication ability at a high level is the attainment of all process indicators of mathematical communication ability in solving problems using sequential steps according to the stages of problem solving. The moderate level of mathematical communication ability is the achievement of three process indicators of mathematical communication ability in solving problems using sequential steps, but not complete with problem solving stages. Furthermore, the level of communication skills is very low, which only fulfills 1 of 4 process indicators of mathematical communication skills in solving problems using only one problem-solving step.
