dc.description.abstract When it comes to teaching English speaking skills, the teacher might use a variety of tactics. However, the teacher must choose an approach that is fit for the students' needs and the material. In a learning process, the teaching strategy has a significant impact on the students' understanding in a process of learning. This study aimed to know 1) What are the teachers’ strategies in teaching English speaking skill at SMP Negeri 12 Malang. 2) What are the problem faced by the English teachers in applying the strategy in teaching English speaking skill at SMP Negeri 12 Malang. The study involved three English teacher as participants of the study. This research design was qualitative research of case study. The researcher used interview and observation as the data collection technique. The data were collected by using classroom observations to directly see the teaching process in the classroom. Interview with the teacher was also employed to obtain information about problem faced by English teacher. Based on the end of the result, it was discovered that there were some strategies that the English teachers used in teaching English speaking skill. The strategies that the English teachers used are active learning method which combine with role play strategy and expository learning method which combine it with drilling strategy. The study concludes that the implementation of this strategy with combining gave good affect for the student. By using various strategies in teaching, it is expected that the students are not bored and get good strategy to improve their speaking skills. en_US
